Book Title Announcement!

Greetings. It has been awhile since I've been busy with edits among other things, and I'm not entirely certain what the plans are on the blogging front. But sooner or later I plan to be regularly blogging again (later being a couple months).

Right now I'm in contract negotiations with Flaming Pen Press, and short of something drastic happening I will post the conclusion to that.

Mainly, I just wanted to pop in to post the semi-official title of my book, and then request your thoughts on it. So, without any further ado...

Kestrel's Midnight Song

There it is! Now, tell me your thoughts and be honest!

I guess I like it, I'm just not sure of the meaning behind it. I've read your prologue and first chapter, but what I remember of that doesn't give me a whole lot of info.
Again, I like it, but it doesn't feel like it describes the books itself. Or maybe it does, and I just don't know enough about it. :)

I actually really like the title. It's something I'd probably grab off a shelf to investigate if I knew nothing about it (or its author)--it definitely conjures up images for me that would make me think it's a fantasy.

I like it! The only suggestion I have is maybe it would be more powerful if it was Midnight Song, OR Kestrel's Song. That was the only thing I thought of-- it just felt like two words could be more powerful than three in this case. But maybe that's just me. :)

I do like it the way it is. Just a thought.

Keep us updated!

i think it's great! but... maybe it could just be "Midnight Song". the Kestrel in it (i'm supposing it's the name of the main character?) would need to be the person you introduce immediately, and from what i read of your first chapter, i don't remember a Kestrel. Maybe that's what you're editing, though! :P... i really like it, though. it's certainly a book that i would pick up from the shelf at the library or book store...

It definitely makes me want to know the story behind it! But I agree with some of the others who have commented in thinking that either Midnight Song, or Kestrel's Song sounds better.

Also, I have awarded you. I realize that you were just awarded this by Jare and Lib, but your blog is one of the top ones that has inspired me, so I had to award you again. . . . :\

I really like it!!! but I do agree that Midnight Song or Kestrel's Song sounds better.

But if I saw it anywhere I would take it off the shelf. I can't wait to be able to read it.

I think it would work; especially if there's a really cool cover that makes it obvious that the book is fantasy.

Some commenters have suggested "Midnight Song" or "Kestrel's Song", and that might be better, but seriously: you're the author and if you want to keep it like it is, it's yours to decide. I think it's fine either way. Good job!

I like it better then the previous title... but I guess the word 'midnight' doesn't sit comfortably with me. Or maybe it's 'song'... I don't know, it's just my opinion, and my opinion doesn't really matter. You're the author and it is ultimately your choice :)

Thanks for the feedback everyone! I realize I can't please everyone, but I'm glad to see that so far most of you like it.

I agree with everyone (wow, that's a pretty solid majority) that Midnight Song would be a better title. Unfortunately, it's already been taken...

And it does relate to the story, but readers don't find out exactly how until later...

Jacob this is so cool... so cool :) Thanks for keeping us updated. I LOVE your book title name, but I don't remember a character called Kestrel from your prologue or chapter one. I know you have been doing a lot of editing so they could be different now... and it is just the very beginning of your book :) Best wishes to you my friend and I'll be praying for you.

I sort of like the title, 'Kestrel's Midnight Song', sort of makes me curious to find out who exactly is Kestrel. I think maybe 'Kestrel's Song' would be a better title, though.

hmmm.. I guess not knowing the full details of the book or reading the manuscript it's hard to say. Why song?

Oh! I get it! Something they don't completely understand until the end! I understand now... what about 'Ketsrel's Song' or 'Night Song' ?

I personally think that it is good the way it is. Kestrel makes me think of birds though, I do not know why though. Definately keep midnight in there, it adds an air of mystery.

ditto ivorydancer for me... as usual... :/

A kestrel is a hawk, a very small one. I like the title either way.

Thanks again for the feedback and encouragement everyone. I'll let you all know if the title changes, but I think it will probably stay the same. If "Midnight Song" wasn't already in use by several other books, I would probably go with that, but I'm happy with the title as is.

Barie: That's interesting that you thought of birds when you heard the title, because, as Galadriel pointed out, a kestrel is a bird. And you're not the first person to think of birds but not know why. The subconscious is fascinating to me. :)

Galadriel: I think you're the first person, either in real life or online, to know what a kestrel is. When I first started writing this book, I thought everyone knew!

Hello Jacob! I definitely like "Kestrel's Midnight Song." On the cover, I picture the word "Kestrel's" in a wavy script and "Midnight Song" in a chunkier, bolder type.

Anyone agree?
